Introducing 9064 MUSIC

I guess it's not really an introduction because it's been up for a month, but I've created a new Youtube channel to house all the soundtracks of 9064 games. That includes those of unreleased games, as well as unreleased music tracks from existing games (such as beta versions and other bonus content).

Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_dDWJW1PnLBezbieWmBh0w.

Concurrency

After another long delay, here is the updated/final version of game I created for Ludum Dare 44. The game remained mostly unchanged from its initial April release for quite a while, but I've finally gotten around to polishing it up this summer for a formal release.

In this game, you control the lone employee of a vast coin minting facility that must maintain up to four coin production lines while protecting the machines (and yourself) from crazy people that break in and try to destroy everything. How long can you keep up?

The game was created mainly using Unity 2018.3.11 and Krita 4. Audacity, Pro Tools SE, and BFXR for the sounds and music. As with my last Ludum Dare entry, everything that you see was made specifically for this jam with the exception of the fonts. Overall, I think this project turned out very well, especially with regards to its aesthetics.

Approximately Hockey

Approximately Hockey, a title originally created for a game jam last winter, is now available on Game Jolt and itch.io. The theme was "Extreme Sports," so this is a multiplayer game in which each player controls two hockey dudes who try to shoot a giant puck into a small goal. Earn additional points by knocking out your opponents, either with the puck or by straight up attacking or ramming them. There are barely any rules, except whoever gets the most points wins.

This project was originally assembled in about a day and a half, and has since been updated several times with additional features (mainly improvements to the UI and menu screen). It is now considered a finished.

Champion of Survival

Introducing a game created for Ludum Dare 43, that I'm only 5 months late in posting. Since this was my first time doing a real game jam it's a little rough around the edges, but hey, it sorta works. The biggest sacrifice in order to fit the original time limit was the ability to come up with a good title.

The game consists of sequential stages of (hopefully) increasing chaos and difficulty. Each stage, the maximum weight you're allowed to carry decreases, so you may have to sacrifice items as the game goes on. Eventually, there are magic attacks which don't weight a lot, but instead drain your health!

It was created primarily with Unity 2018.2.8, Blender 2.79, Krita 4, Audacity, and Visual Studio. Everything that you see was made specifically for this jam with the exception of the fonts, which I made for another project a few years ago.

In May 2019, the game was updated to include 9 rounds (originally 7, circa December 2018) along with corresponding balance tweaks and bug fixes, and some minor additional features. After this update, I now consider the game complete, which is why I am posting it now.

Logan Kart 8 Deluxe Update 2.1 Is Here

The Logan Kart 8 Version 2.1 update has arrived! It's here to bring some slight changes and additions to your Logan Kart experience.

New Features!

  • Anarchy Mode! It's basically 315cc with some tweaks designed for chaos.
  • Variable race length! As mentioned earlier in the devlog. Also available in Grand Prix, due to the results of the poll.
  • Android version is back (use at your own risk)!

Changes!

  • Physics changes of which I don't remember all the specifics!
  • Item tweaks!
  • Vehicles fly higher in the air when hit by items!
This is going to be the last update for a while, and possibly ever. However, I said the same thing about 2.0, so anything is possible. Perhaps even Logan Kart 9. Logan Kart X. A spiritual successor. Who knows. But I need a break. See y'all later.

Logan Kart 8 Update 2.1: The Seventh Class

Some people want to go even faster. Some people want no item balance whatsoever. And some people just want to break the game. If any of these sound familiar, I have just the thing for you. Introducing Logan Kart 8: Anarchy Mode.

This "game mode" is technically the seventh class, after M300cc, but it has several differences that distinguish it from all other speed classes:

  • Slightly faster than 300cc
  • Most out of bounds / reset zones are disabled
  • Different item distributions

How different are these item distributions? In Anarchy mode, the four item modes behave as follows:

  • None - No items.
  • Normal - Same item distribution in every place 1st through 8th, with some items being rarer than others.
  • Boring - Same item distribution as "Crazy" in other speed classes.
  • Crazy - Same item distribution in every place 1st through 8th, with every unique item equally weighted.

In addition, unlike the "Race Length" option, this mode is selectable in Time Trials. Not only is it much faster than 180cc time trials, but in Anarchy mode item boxes are present. Accordingly, Anarchy records will be separate.

This mode is completely optional and is just supposed to be an additional feature for serious (or non-serious, I suppose) players that is distinct from the "regular" speeds. Some people have requested a "classic" physics mode in the past that behaves differently from the main game, so I think this is a suitable compromise (indeed, physics in 2.1, especially in Anarchy mode, are slightly different, too).

If you have any feedback or suggestions, please leave a comment. I want to make sure that 2.1 has enough Logan Kart 8 for everyone!

Announcing Logan Kart 8 Deluxe Update 2.1

I was originally going to release a small patch called 2.0.1, but due to some lukewarm reception and a sudden desire to add additional features, this patch is going to be bumped to a minor feature andbugfix update. There will be some significant changes in v2.1 to many aspects of gameplay, some that people asked for, some that people didn’t ask for, and some that may be considered a compromise.

Starting with the things that people didn’t ask for, here is a new feature coming to update 2.1: a “Race Length” option in VS mode:

This option controls the number of laps in each race, and it has six settings:
  • Single - Every race is one lap, that’s it.
  • Short - Reduced lap counts across the board (e.g. 2 laps instead of 3)
  • Normal - The standard race length.
  • Long - For extended races (e.g. 5 laps instead of 3).
  • Marathon - I wouldn’t recommend this at speeds slower than 180cc.
  • Random - The number of laps is chosen randomly from one of the five options above for each race (don’t worry - it’s weighted).
Marathon mode is so ridiculous that I had to redesign the end-of-race lap time screen and lap counter for some tracks. If you want to dodge your way through 5 minutes of Roundabout, this is the mode for you.

The feature is already complete, but what I want to know from you guys is if you’d like to see this option available in Grand Prix mode as well (it definitely won’t be in Time Trials). I’ve set up a poll on the Game Jolt Page regarding this question.

Take care, fellow Logankarters.
