Logan Kart's Fifth Cup

Today I am proud to vaguely announce a headline feature coming to Logan Kart 8 Deluxe:

See it on the right? With the addition of the "Rejected Ideas Cup," the total track count for LK8D at release will be 20. The stages in this cup are based on concepts that never materialized into full tracks during development and are now getting their chance to shine. While specifics for the new levels cannot be shown yet, I'll gradually release more information about them and other new content on this blog as well as on the Game Jolt devlog throughout the month.

Regarding July's survey: I was going to close it down but since responses continue to flow in on a daily basis, I'll keep it open for at least another week. After it is closed, I'll post the results as well as some development updates as they pertain to your responses.

I'm still really bad at predicting release dates; the best I can do is "summer." Hopefully that means August.

Logan Kart 8 Deluxe: The Survey

I want to hear from you guys what y'all want in the next Logan Kart. Formalize the process a little bit.

You can take the survey here.

Maybe I'll make more of these. Who knows?

Logan Kart 8 Deluxe and Classic

Unfortunately, April 27, 2018 brought the end of Logan Kart 8 on Game Jolt. As expected, a certain company that shall not be named filed a copyright claim and the original Logan Kart 8 was taken down. Quite frankly, I’m surprised it’s taken them this long to do so; it’s quite strange to see it happen since the game has been online for almost three years.
But don’t fret it! Soon, Logan Kart 8 will be back and better than ever, since this time, it’s censored deluxe.
While the game will be mostly the same as the original with the controversial content replaced with some admittedly lazy substitutions, I’d like to make some additions to it as well to make the “deluxe” version not just an adjustment, but an upgrade.
Because it's entirely possible that this "Deluxe" release will take some time to complete, I have re-released the original Logan Kart 8 (this time demonetized) under the name Logan Kart 8 Classic for those that wish to play it. It is just an exact copy of version 1.0.0, and will not receive any more updates. If it gets taken down again, hopefully either the Deluxe version will be finished by then or I'll have found another place to host it.

Rest assured that work on Logan Kart 8 Deluxe is well underway and I'm excited to reveal some new features in the coming weeks, with a release hopefully following sometime later in July or early August.

Logan Kart 1.0.0

Finally!

Just a couple of days (and a year) since the last update, Logan Kart 1.0 is here! I know I said I'd have it done earlier (sorry about that), but it's hard to predict how long these things will take, especially since it's not my job to make Logan Kart. But three years later, the game is in a state which, although perhaps not as polished as it could be, is as complete as the original vision specified. Enjoy!

Main Features:

  • With the addition of three new tracks (I-5 Loop, Sea-Tac Circuit, and Waluigi Vending Machine), all 16 tracks and 4 cups are fully playable.
  • A complete overhaul of most lighting effects in the game. It looks much better, especially at lower detail settings, but it has come at the cost of an increased download size.
  • New post-processing effects (and more control of them in the options menu). Motion blur is back!
  • Some physics changes. You may want to reset your best lap times...
  • Attempted to fix some bugs. Some of them may have actually been fixed.
I wouldn't expect any large updates in the future, but if something is glaringly wrong I may patch it. I've been making this game for a longer time than I like to admit, and it's time to move on to bigger and better things. Thanks for joining me on this expedition. Onward!

Logan Kart August 2017 Update

I know I said I'd release the 1.0 version in August, but clearly that isn't going to be the case anymore. That being said, progress is coming along nicely, and I still fully expect a release soon, most likely in September, and I'd like to show off some of the progress that's being made to show that I'm not doing nothing.

First off, here's I-5 Loop, which is almost completed. It's one of the longest tracks in the game and one of the few based on a real-world location (with plenty of artistic liberty taken of course).

The complexity of this track alone is essentially the sole reason why the update is taking so long; just the geometry alone was completed over a span of about a month.

That being said, I'm quite pleased with how it turned out and I think it'll be a lot of fun. I've linked a video featuring a beta version of this track at the end of this post.

The other two tracks are Waluigi Vending Machine and Sea-Tac Circuit. The basic layouts of each are complete, and both are undergoing aesthetic finalization, so they look a bit barren right now.

Not to mention that 1.0 also features plenty of new and updated content, particularly in the sound effects and visual effects departments. Even older tracks look better than ever!

Here's a video of a lap around I-5 Loop:

If you're still here, thanks for sticking around! I hope you all can understand that this is not something I can work constantly on all the time and projections and workloads are always changing. Logan Kart 1.0 is just over the horizon, and after it's completed there are lots of other cool projects we've been waiting to show off, so stay tuned!

REACTOR

Similarly to Alumium Valley, 9064 presents REACTOR, a game produced this year for the same annual competition. It's not quite as buggy or weird, and only won third place, but it's probably a better game, at least in terms of gameplay. I suppose they each have their merits.

Once again, it's mostly here for archival purposes. Expect no future updates.

Alumium Valley

So for something different, I've decided to release an old game called Alumium Valley that was created last year for a student competition. It was never really finished and quite rushed in development, but shockingly managed to win quite a number of awards nonetheless.

For archival purposes it's now available on Game Jolt, but keep in mind that it hasn't been worked on for a year and will likely never be updated again.
